Fathers Getting Custody of Children - 7 Ways To Help Fathers Win Custody

Fathers getting custody of their kids is a lot more common than it was in years past.  However, that fact remains that it is still a woman's court and you, as the father, really have to prove to the judge that you are the fit parent.  This article will give you 7 proven ways to help you win custody of your child.  Bear in mind however, this information is only good if you, in fact, are the more fit person for child rearing.  Keep your child's interest in mind at all times.

Keep a Journal

Keep a journal of how much time you spend with your kids, along with a host of other details.  Things like, does your ex talk bad about you in front of the kids, does she provoke arguments and so on.  Make sure the daily journal logs the good, the bad and the ugly.  This will only help you in court.

Get a Lawyer as Soon as Possible

Even if you and your ex-wife decide to settle out of court, get a lawyer.  This will save you heart ache and grief in the near future.

File First

File for custody of your child before she does.  That way, you are the Plaintiff telling the judge that you want custody of your child.  This way, the judge will also see that you are not a dead beat dad.

Attend a Parenting Class

Even if you feel you don't need it, or you won't benefit from a parenting class, attend one anyway.  The judge will see that you are putting forth and honest effort to be the best parent possible for your child.  It's kind of like having a long list of credentials after your name.  It simply looks impressive.

Spend A Lot of Quality Time With Your Child

This should go without saying.  And all the quality time you spend together should be logged in your journal.

Keep Your Job

It can seem that getting custody of your child can be a full time job, but you really need to keep your day job.  The economy might be really tough right now, but even if you're out of work, you'll need to show the judge that you are looking for work or that you do odd jobs to help support your family.  Don't go to court collecting unemployment.

Get Affidavits From Everyone

An affidavit is simply a statement from friends, co-workers, church members and family members that will tell how great of a parent and father you are.  The more the merrier.  When I got custody of my daughter, I had over 20 affidavits.  You should too.

Fathers getting custody is more common in the 21st century than in any other time in history.  The cards are more in your favor now than they have ever been.  Just follow some simple guidelines and you'll do just fine.
