Five of the Best Ways to Get Over a Lover

Tired of the endless suggestions and opinions of friends and family at the end of your relationship? Unwilling to become yet another hapless victim seeking solace in alternative therapies. Here's a selection of the best ways to get over a lover and give you some ideas to help you over a broken heart...

Make yourself feel good

Whether it's a haircut or a massage, it's always an idea to do something practical with your outward appearance to make you feel good. One place to start is with your underwear. This is a sure way to make you feel marvellous about your body without the need of a man in your life. Out with the granny knickers and in with the new sexy lingerie! Indulge in comfortable but sexy lingerie that makes you feel confident in yourself. You could even try something more risqu? such as corsets or even some cheeky garters. Don't be shy! No one needs to know.

Don't do anything you'll regret

You frequently hear about people losing the plot when it comes to a break-up. Try not to say or do anything that you'll regret later. Don't let the end of your time together ruin your interpretation of the experience as a whole. Relationships can meld into beautiful friendships over time. How ever tempting it may be, creating a bonfire of their photos and possessions, or drunken recriminations are not going to solve anything.

Escapism

There is nothing wrong with wallowing, as long as it doesn't become a permanent state of affairs. Spend some time alone, wrap yourself up in your most comfortable duvet and watch films that make you feel all warm inside. If it were up to me, first on the list would be The Bridges of Madison County - one of the most romantic movies of all time. Other classics include Billy Wilder's Love in the Afternoon or The Shop Around the Corner, a charming romantic comedy from the 1940s that might even get you to laugh!

Appreciate the fond memories

There will always be unanswered questions. Don't let your need for justification plunge you into depression. Sometimes lost love doesn't have a reason. Think constructively and take some advice from Lord Alfred Tennyson: "Tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all".

Take the proper time out

Time heals everything, or so they say, so ensure you let yourself take the time you need to accept closure at the end of a relationship.
